FAQ’s

What is a personal biography video?

A video biography is a filmed interview, where a person answers a set of personal questions, by means of which they tell their life story. The result is an autobiographical journey through this person’s life. The story is complemented with photographs, memorabilia and video clips (from back in the days).

Why should I record my life story as a video?

Everyone’s personal history is interesting and unique. Some have witnessed significant historical events, but many haven’t. Regardless of age or importance we all have experiences worth sharing.

Many of us are intending to document our life story in one way or another for our family. Ever so often however this remains an unfulfilled task. The opportunity is missed to create a legacy of stories and memories to inform and inspire present and future generations.

A video is one of the simplest ways to preserve, celebrate and share your memories. A film not only captures a person’s story but also lets the person be in charge of telling their own story.

Many households keep boxes or albums full of unlabelled photos - photos that contain treasured memories that shouldn’t be forgotten or remain untold. A video biography is like an “animated photo album” where the pictures are brought to life by a narrator who knows the story behind them.

With a video portrait, these memories can be treasured and passed on to generations to come.

What questions are being asked in a video biography interview?

The questions asked in a recorded interview will inspire the interviewee to remember and to narrate. For example:

  • What are your first memories of your childhood?

  • Where and how did you meet the love of your life?

  • What stories and life experience would you like pass on to younger generations?

How do we decide which themes to cover in the video?

You decide which memories will make the focus of the biography. A questionnaire sent to you beforehand will help you evaluate what stations of your life should be part of the video.

  • Do you mainly want to talk about your upbringing/ family?

  • Do you want to celebrate a major life event (e.g. wedding, anniversary)?

  • Should past travels be the centre of the film?

  • Or do you want to focus on professional achievements?

Based on your answers and your own ideas and suggestions, we’ll work out a guideline that will run us through the interview

Talking in front of the camera makes me feel uneasy

You don’t need to be a pro to tell your story in a personal biography video! We help you feel comfortable talking in front of a camera. We won’t be rushed and you’ll have time to get used to the filming environment. Once we’ve started our conversation, people quickly forget about the camera.

We’re happy to come to your place for shooting the video. Almost all people feel most comfortable there. The familiar environment also helps bringing up memories.

It is also possible to only do an audio recording of the interview. In the finished video, the interviewee’s voice is narrating their story that is brought to life with photos and old video footage.

How long does it take to complete the video?

The video will be sent to you 6 weeks after the video shoot. The finished video biography will be sent to you stored on an USB stick, and, if requested, on DVD or Blu-Ray. In addition you will receive a personal link, protected by a password, to view the film on a video sharing platform.
